In Conversation: E. Moncell Durden and Vida L. Brown
In conjunction with the exhibition The Notion of Family, examine the history of dance in African American culture with dancer and dance historian E. Moncell Durden and curator Vida L. Brown. Hear about the evolution of dance traditions and dances such as the Backslide, Apple-Jack, Lockin, Electric Boogaloo, Urban Cha Cha, and Hip-Hop, to name a few, and learn how community and family play key roles in passing down or reshaping certain moves.
